How much will it cost me broseph ???

Postby The Grim » Mon Feb 01, 2010 9:05 am

Hey mate, I have a tune that is almost finished and by that I mean 95% complete. I was curios to know how much you would charge to do the mastering for me on it. Also wouldn't mind getting a price on doing the full engineering on it too. I know your a busy guy and I will be patient if need be. I think the full deal will be out of my price range to be honest but I am still interested to know for future reference.

Cheers bloke. :D

PS: Also wanted to say that I am so sorry for missing your radio interview. I was really looking forward to it and I am actually a little bit angry at myself for missing it. Sorry again mate.

Email me an mp3 encoded at like 160kb and let me give it a listen. The price all depends on how much work needs to be done and I have to listen to it to be able to give you the right price. Anywhere from $50-$300 for most mastering jobs. It depends what it sounds like to me when I preview it and if there are any add-ons.

The full engineering is what will get you because you're looking at about 4-6 hours roughly to mix one song. Resampling or drum replacement if need be, is even more time consuming, so this one can definitely drain the bank account. LOL! However....the finished results will equally rip your face off in the same manner your @ss was ripped off by paying me what I'd ask for. LMAO!! Mixes depend on a few things actually.

1. How much work needs to be done.
a. Drum replacement?
b. Resampling or amplification replacement?
c. Vocal pitch correction? (yeah I know you'll need at least 12 hours of this LOL!! I'm soo kiddin!)
d. Me as the producer?

2. Number of tracks. The more tracks you have, the more time it takes to give everything it's own space and voice.

Unless it's an acoustic guitar and one voice, you're looking at 4-6 hours to get the mix under control. If there are elements of #1 included, it can take even more time. Add in effects etc and it really is a time consuming endeavor no matter WHO is doing the mix. So this really depends on what you have already, what needs to be added and how good/bad what you have already may/may not need surgery to be honest. Depending on the song, typically for 4 or more instruments you're looking at roughly $200-$500.

These are all ballpark figures though. I can't give you any true prices unless I can hear the stuff and know exactly what is needed from me before I can hone in on a locked price for you. I promise not to hurt you too bad price wise since you're my bro...but the time it can take to do something like this also takes me away from the big jobs I have going on, so I can't be too lenient with pricing, know what I mean?

It pains me to even charge my friends for stuff like this...it really does, you have no idea. I'm doing a job for a guy right now that is like a brother to me in real life. When he asked me to do the job, at first I said no because I didn't have the time. He says "I never wanted it for free, I want to pay you dude!" I still said no because I am having a hard time taking his money. Finally he said "well, fine I'll go somewhere else where I'll still have to pay, will wind up paying more and then I'll throw it in your face and play it on your answering machine every day so you can see how bad I got jacked!" LOL!!! Couldn't say no after that! But, the reason for it is pretty much principal. I'll explain.

I know you weren't looking for a freebie either, but I feel the need to justify this because it bothers me so bad. I don't have the time I once had to do the things I used to do. All the big jobs I have currently, have deadlines and are contractually obligated. I push them to the side for the littler jobs or to bail friends out (yet still have to deliver the big jobs as promised on time with no excuses) and have to work harder and longer to keep on schedule. I don't mind this one bit, so don't think I'm complaining. LOL! The littler jobs are more fun and pay faster. The big jobs are more tedious and pay over time sometimes. But it poses the question: "Do I do a job for a friend for free or for a VERY small fee that takes 6 hours when I don't have 6 hours to spare, or do I master an entire album for $1000?" LMAO!

Heck if I had the time bro and wasn't swamped, I'd do the thing for nothing for you...seriously...from the heart. So, send me an mp3 of of what you got going on, and I'll give you the best prices I can for whatever you need, ok? Don't let the prices I posted up here scare you. That's just rough going into it blindly. Once I hear it and know what I'm up against, it will probably be $1000 more, so no worries. LOL!! (j/k) Seriously though...once I hear it, I'll give you my take and the cheapest price I can give you...I promise. Thanks for the offer man...I'll sort you out on this and give you something you'll forever be proud of that will sound so good, it won't leave here until you're completely happy with it.

As for the interview thing, ya man, it was a blast of a time. I'm sorry you missed it too. I think you might have had a good time also. But that's ok, you were with us in spirit. :) Played a few new tunes that went over really well. We'll have to make sure we get you in there next time. :) Talk soon bro....I'll be waiting for that mp3!
Rock On!
